Building a Balanced Indian Plate

By Dt. Siza Gulati ·

Traditional Indian meals already contain many of the building blocks of a balanced diet: pulses, vegetables, whole grains and dairy. Small changes in proportion often matter more than dramatic substitutions.

A useful starting point is to fill roughly half the plate with vegetables, a quarter with a protein source such as dal, paneer, eggs or legumes, and a quarter with grains like rice, roti or millets.

Everyone's needs differ with age, activity, health conditions and preferences. A consultation helps translate general principles into a plan that fits your routine and kitchen.
